Since studies show that students, particularly teenagers, need to read at least 1,000,000 words a year, the Montrose R-XIV Library sponsors the honorary Millionaire's Club.
Students, grades 4 through 12, are eligible for induction (and subsequent maintenance of membership) by reading at least 1,000,000 words per year and verifying comprehension through a variety of diagnostic means, including Accelerated Reader quizzes.
In addition to bragging rights, "Million-heirs" inherit improved vocabulary, intelligence, reading speed, memory, coping and problem-solving abilities, writing skills, and exposure to new ideas and information.
